Split screen is little more attractive with its visual effects. Need for speed on the other hand is going on its own road. Split screen has few new ideas put in it. But need for speed is just trying to go by its name. And the start must be fast to be attractive.
The problem with NFS is the start is longer than what we want to play. If I start playing now, the old cars I play till I reach the new ones is almost like equal. I don't want to spend at least a day on the old cars. At max I can spend an hour or two at most. This is key.
NFS Most Wanted was so crazy to play because, he started with BMW M3. So the craze was pulling towards the end. There must be something which keeps the gamer on the road at the beginning and when he finishes a 4-5 hour of the gameplay, he is on his own interest to play another week or month. That's how it should be.
